Spring time and your Fleet

This is one of the times of year where a small to mid sized business should start looking at the businesses fleet. You should be looking at your records to see what is due for service and what type of service is it. Then the vehicles should be examined to see how they look. Don’t forget to check the inside as well as the outside of the vehicles.

Why you ask should this be done? It is simple you want to make sure of the following:(provided this is important to you and your company)

1. Does the vehicle look presentable to the public? Does it portray the image of success and a caring business?

2. Have we spent a lot in repairs does it need an over haul or be replaced? You make this decision based on miles, condition what’s been done and life expectancy if you did more. How long will it go can it be repurposed to get more out of it? Is it worth it?

3. How has the vehicle been treated by the team or driver using the vehicle?

It all boils down too what is best for the company pocket book. But you have to be realistic. Don’t look at the immediate. I always believed that long term is where the thinking should be with vehicles. In short term it should be can we go till we are ready with funds for the overhaul or purchase? It is a lot to go over but necessary practice to get the best bang for the buck from the fleet and the driver’s alike. Depending on the size of your fleet and how you kept records it should take no more than a month to analyze and figure out what needs to be done. Of course you also need to add in the factor of what type of growth or downsizing are you experiencing is business transforming therefore what you have been using needs to change? Or maybe the products you use are changing? All reasons to take this time to reflect examine and change.
