You know I live in the Northeast Region New York Tri-State area and it is winter time. Time if you make your living on the road or do a lot of driving to and from, you then you should know the following for winter driving in the area.
1. Before winter hits get your vehicle or your company’s vehicles tuned up and winterized. Yes that is a thing you should really do. Now you ask why? Look at this way when it is snowing and it is raining and the temp is dropping you get in your vehicle or your driving and the lights get dim and wipers slow until car dies. Why you ask as you pray no one ones into you did this happen? well because you decided winterizing checking battery and belts was a waste of time. NOW WHAT?
2. OH NO NEED FOR TIRES I GOT ALL RADIAL ALL SEASONS ON MY VEHICLE.
yet at first real storm your stuck even with 4×4 why? because you thought snow tires cost too much. who needs them? yet what are you stuck in a drift turning a corner. You don’t have to get expensive tires just get yourself at least 2 snow tires rated for 20,000 miles see the difference you may get stuck if not 4×4 but it will be a lot less often. Put on 4 tires (snows ) and a non 4×4 is like having a 4×4 vehicle. Try it! I am sure people in Boston area wish they did this and will next year for sure. they will also make sure they have asset of chains in the truck too.
3. Why Why Why people will not drive with there lights on in weather like this is beyond me. Guarantee you check most of the accidents (daytime/early evening) at least one driver did not have there lights on.
How many people know that the worst cars to drive in snow and rain are White, silver, Gray, Blue and black. the last 2 colors worst at night with white because the blend in with the snow especially. Silver and Gray with rain. that is why People it is the LAW LIGHTS ON IN RAIN OR SNOW ANY TIME. AND WHEN WIPERS ARE GOING THE LIGHTS SHOULD BE ON. NOT THE DYTIME RUNNING WHICH IS FOR EVERYDAY DRIVING BUT YOUR LIGHTS PERIOD LIGHTING UP THE FRONT AND REAR OF YOUR VEHICLE LIKE BUSES AND TRUCKS.
The reason being vehicles lights are normally seen way before the car by a pedestrian or another driver in front or behind you. It is funny and sad this is a law and even the police and ambulance don’t always do it. those that are driving with one light out or the tail lights are not working or only one light is working in the rear. Not just on emergency vehicles but also private vehicles as well. Another reason why you should be conscious of how everything is working on the car you are going to use.
Plus make sure you have kitty litter salt and blankets and water and snack bars encase you should get trapped in your car during a violent storm for a long period of time. Use common since if the conditions are such you can’t get out the front door with out a shovel then stay home or wherever you are at if you can. Already on the road seek shelter as soon as you can get off the road. Make sure your car has nothing less than a half a tank of gas at all times as well.
Okay so you are smart didn’t drive using public transport. Great but if you have a vehicle make sure you keep it cleaned off and you run it for a while every day for 20 minutes. When you clean off the vehicle getting ready to venture out do what you can o make sure your vehicle is completely clean. nothing on the roof nothing on the trunk or hood. if you did but now your driving it is piling up on the car while you are driving pull over clean it off periodically to stay safe on the road.
All common since rules of the road for winter areas like the Northeast and northern part of the country along the great lakes. not used to it then get used to it fast. the life saved may be mine and especially yours.
